Your squad is not just a collection of tasks

By Dan Hammond, Chief Disruption Officer, LIW

Collaboration technology is a huge asset to a team, but it may not help you to actually collaborate.

In his book, “Here Comes Everybody”, Clay Shirky observed that the most basic way in which groups connect is to share information. Next in their evolution is to co-operate – or help each other to complete tasks. At the top of the pile is true collaboration.

Collaboration involves creating the conditions – Clarity, CIimate and Competence – inside the team so that it becomes more than the sum of its parts and performs consistently.

What does this mean for leadership?

Make sure your squad focuses not just on tasks but on the team that will execute them. Without the right conditions in place, the tasks will not be created, executed or learned from effectively.
