Psychological safety – from anywhere

By guest contributor Pia Lee, CEO of Squadify

Amy Edmondson published an article in the Harvard Business Review this week on ‘Leading psychological safety in the hybrid workplace’.  Seeing this as ‘the belief that one can speak up without risk of punishment or humiliation’, she outlines five key steps that managers should take to build a collective, inclusive and safe environment.

What does this mean for leadership?

Squadify research identifies that strong personal connections are seemingly less important to managers in a time of mounting pressures and heavy workload.  And yet, increased burn out and workplace loneliness are rising at an alarming rate within teams today. Humans need connection and psychological sustenance from each other. This makes enabling team members to all have a voice, especially in hybrid environments, a top priority for leaders. The collective ‘we’ needs active support – from anywhere.
