Hard and soft

By Pia Lee, CEO, LIW

A glance in the rear-view mirror gives us a stark reminder of the size of the shift that leaders now need to take to create high performance outcomes in their teams.

Six years ago, Harvard Business Review reported that only 34% of managers used video for collaboration and 43% were confused by the variety of technology platforms!

What does this mean for leadership?

Fast forward to the present and HRD refers to ‘people science’ and the use of technology which helps managers gain actionable insights into their team’s performance, especially in disruptive, dispersed COVID-19 times. This data creates new pathways to communication and rapport and also amplifies trust and resilience.

The hard data and the soft skills – for a long time polarised – may have found a common home as the leadership of the future.
