Time for ‘the change’

By Pia Lee, CEO, LIW

Challenging taboos and indeed, stigmas, is a tricky business. But it’s one that Channel 4 in the UK has taken head on by announcing the launch of its first ever dedicated menopause policy. Recognising that 59% of women in the workplace are adversely affected, it has bravely demonstrated to ‘out’ a previously silent subject in order to facilitate a more open workplace.

What does this mean for leadership?

Making your team a ‘safe place to share ideas’ correlates strongly with high performance. It matters even more when we understand that in Australia alone, one in eight of us (maybe reading this) are currently experiencing high or very high psychological distress.

Task work needs the strong ally of teamwork in order to get the best from people and achieve extraordinary results. That is, indeed, strength in vulnerability.
