Teams: the uncomfortable truth

Are too many organisations paying lip service to the crucial role that teams play in driving performance? There seems to be a lack of urgency or action, with clients telling us that they know they need to spend more time focusing on their team, but that they don’t have the time or headspace. Tasks, project plans and to-do lists come first and the team is relegated to the bottom of the list.

This is a huge missed opportunity given the very real challenges facing organisations right now – a complex and ever changing world – and the role that teams will play in helping organisations navigate them.

We uncovered some uncomfortable truths when we were researching our latest Purple Paper: A team-centred approach to organisational performance:

  • Almost 6/10 teams are underperforming
  • 75% of cross-functional teams are underperforming
  • 90% of teams claimed to be high performing, but only 17% met the high-performance criteria

Those statistics are staggering, aren’t they? So we’re putting teams firmly at the top of the priority list and giving them the attention they deserve. Why don’t you join us?
