More important than winning

By Dan Hammond, Chief Disruption Officer, LIW

This week’s bleet comes from the wonderful world of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

It was sparked by some less than wonderful behaviour of the Cameroonian team in their fixture against England. They reacted badly to some tough calls against them but the new camera technology meant that the referee had made informed judgements.

The leadership lesson comes from Phil Neville, England’s manager whose comments after the game focused on the poor example this set to young girls watching the game around the world. He even brushes off England’s win in the light of this disappointing role modelling.

What does this mean for leadership?

Whatever you are doing, ask: what is the bigger picture?  What’s even more important than what we are doing?

How can you serve that higher goal, not just score more of them?
