In the midst of a crisis, you don’t want the words of Dad’s Army’s Corporal Jones ‘Don’t panic’ ringing in your ears!

Whilst the national political leadership of the Australian bush fire crisis has been highly questionable, those leading on the front line have stepped up with exemplary pragmatic, straight and regular communication. An example was Blue Mountains’ Mayor Mark Greenhill who has authentically communicated twice daily to ease the stress of the community in the midst of high fire alert.

What does this mean for leadership?

It shouldn’t require a crisis to inspire our best communication. Indeed, crises large and small come in many forms at work and home.

Simply connect, be clear and ask what others are needing this year. It could make a big difference in 2020.
