Being kind

By guest contributor Dan Hammond, CPO of Squadify

Both the Spectator and the Guardian have had a pop at Prince Harry this week for speaking up about mental illness. These come from different ends of the political spectrum so it’s surprising to see them making some similar points.

It’s also disappointing. Beyond selling newspapers, they could have a negative broader impact.

What does this mean for leadership?

Our need to be clever and reactionary can mean that we miss a bigger point. By attacking Harry, we diminish the positive movement of recognising mental health as a genuine issue.

Yes, it’s easy to mock Harry for having mental health issues when he is wealthy and surrounded by luxury but is this not the best way to show that anyone can be a victim?

It’s nice to be clever but it’s ever more clever to be nice.
