A more perfect union

By Dan Hammond, Chief Disruption Officer, LIW

My wife and I watched today’s inauguration and, I have to admit, shed a few tears. Our teenage daughter laughed at us, naturally.

For us, President Biden’s call for unity, hope and light was inspiring and exactly what the world needs in these times of division.

What does this mean for leadership?

We all need to play our part in bringing together and healing our nations. Yes, we have our differences but that does not call for an ‘uncivil war’. We actually have more in common than things that divide us.

President Biden said today, ‘We’ll lead, not by the example of our power, but by the power of our example’. We must all do the same.

To do so, we will need to summon ‘the better angels of our nature’, however exhausted they may be!
